The crash took place around 9:37 p.m. Wednesday when the state trooper was traveling eastbound on I-84 near Farmington behind a construction vehicle with his emergency lights flashing and a vehicle driven by Alexandra Warzecho of Terryville hit the rear of the police cruiser at a high rate of speed, said the state police.

The cruiser sustained moderate rear-end damage and injured the trooper who was transported to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

Warzecho's vehicle received heavy damage, she refused medical treatment on the scene, state police said.

During an investigation, Warzecho admitted to drinking and performed poorly during a field sobriety test, officials said. Officers also found drug paraphernalia in her possession.

Warzecho was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, following too closely, failure to slow or move over for an emergency vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was processed and later released on $2,500 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 19.
